I will be exploring which types of technology are used, which types could and should or should not ~ be used in shipbroking and in maritime arbitration today. I will also present my opinion on how technology could prevent smooth processes of shipbroking and of arbitration and how they can therefore hinder ~ rather than help the practitioners. I am basing my presentation on my own experience and also on my research after discussing this modern phenomenon with shipbrokers, ship owners, charterers and arbitrators. This is an item of interest to both genders, to all ages and to all levels of experience and expertise with the global shipping community. The conclusion within the shipping industry is that technological advances and tools can assist by making filling, searching and research much swifter and easier to use but that no technology can currently replace the intuitive and / or learned skills of human beings, including knowledge of certain markets and laws, the “feel” for a problem and how to solve it and ~ above all ~ the human touch of relationships which no machine can replace.
